APIOS americana - Twining hardy climber with scented red-brown flowers in late summer. Sun or light shade.
BERBERIDOPSIS corallina - Evergreen climber requiring support with clusters of red flowers in late summer. Likes sheltered cool moist shady position and will need protection in most parts of Scotland during winter.
CLEMATIS 'Elsa Spath' ' - Large deep violet flowers all summer. Sun or shade. Prune early spring.
CLEMATIS 'Lawsoniana' - Early summer flowering hybrid with very large lavender blue flowers. grow in sun or light shade in deep rich moist soil.
CLEMATIS 'Miss Bateman ' - Compact hybrid with large white flowers tinged blue and blue stamens. Early and requires little pruning.
CLEMATIS 'Pixie' - Dwarf evergreen Clematis with scented creamy green flowers in April and May over fine ferny foliage. Grow in sun and well drained soil. Good container plant.
CLEMATIS 'Sweet Hart' - Dwarf C.marmoraria hybrid with small white flowers in late spring followed by fluffy seedheads. Grow as a rockery scrambler or free standing plant in sun and free draining rich moist soil.
CLEMATIS alpina 'Pink Flamingo' - Nodding bell shaped semi double pink flowers in spring. Prune after flowering if necessary. Grow in sun or light shade in moist rich soil.
CLEMATIS cartmanii 'Avalanche' - New Zealand hybrid with great foliage and white flowers in spring. Debatable hardiness so grow in a pot.
CLEMATIS florida 'Sieboldii' - Large creamy white flowers with central dome of rich purple stamens in mid to late summer. Best in a sheltered site and well fed.
CLEMATIS forsteri - Spring flowering species with nodding lemon scented yellow/green nodding flowers in April and May. Grow in a sheltered spot in sun or light shade.
CLEMATIS fusca - A semi herbaceous species with maroon red urn shaped flowers and recurved tepals. Flowers later so can be pruned in spring if required to keep compact and attractive.
CLEMATIS jouiniana 'Praecox' - Pale blue fragrant flowers flushed silver in August-September. For sun or light shade.
CLEMATIS montana 'Rubens - Vigorous climber with soft pink flowers in early summer. Grow in any soil in sun or light shade.
CLEMATIS patens 'Yukiokoshi' - Double creamy green/white flowers up to 5" wide from May thru' summer.. Only requires very light pruning in early spring. Grow in sun or light shade.
CLEMATIS triternata 'Rubomarginata' - Scented dusky pink star shaped flowers in late summer. Cool moist soil in full sun and shelter.
ERCILLA volubilis - Evergreen self clinging climber with scented purple pink fluffy flowers in spring. hardy enough but give it a fighting chance against a warm wall in Scotland in well drained soil.
FREMONTODENDRON 'Californian Glory' - Vigorous climber for a warm wall with yellow flowers from early to late summer. Happy in sun against a sheltered wall.
HEDERA helix 'Anita' - Tiny deeply cut arrowhead leaves. For sun or shade, climbing or groundcover.
HEDERA helix 'Atropurpurea' - Slow growing form with bronzy-purple winter tones. For sun or shade.
HEDERA helix 'Bill Archer' - Compact plant with small narrow leaves. For sun or shade.
HEDERA helix 'Colin' - Very crinkled almost spherical leaves. Slow growing. For sun or shade.
HEDERA helix 'Dead Again' - Bizarre variety with crinkled edges and 'furry' edges to the foliage. Love it or hate it.
HEDERA helix 'Glymmi' - Shiny dark green roundish leaves that take on purple tones in cold weather.
HEDERA helix 'Golden Mathilde' - aka 'Midas Touch' Small wavy leaves splashed gold. Almost tolerable.
HEDERA helix 'Parsley Crested' - Medium sized rounded light green leaves with ruffled edges. For sun or shade and moist soil until established.
HEDERA helix 'Yellow Ripple' - Slow growing variety with creamy yellow edged palmate leaves. Useful for containers as well as climbing. Grow in any soil in not too much shade or full sun.
HEDERA pastuchovii 'Ann Ala' - Species collected and named by Roy Lancaster with dark glossy shield shaped leaves with good veining. Twining habit. Grow in any soil in shade or sun.
HYDRANGEA anomala subsp. petiolaris - Deciduous climber with white lace cap flowers and yellow autumn colour. Vigorous. Sun or shade.
JASMINUM nudiflorum - Winter Jasmin brings some welcome colour with its yellow flowers in January and February. Grow in sun or shade and prune occasionally to keep compact.
JASMINUM officinale - Wonderful scented white Jasmin for growing over trellis or wall with support. Flowers in early summer. Grow in sun or light shade.
JASMINUM stephanense - Semi evergreen climber with pale pink fragrant flowers in early summer. Grow in a well drained sunny sheltered spot in Scotland to get the effective perfume.
LATHYRUS nervosus - Half hardy climber 'Lord Hanson's Pea' has bright blue star flowers strongly scented of bluebells. Needs good drainage and full sun.
LONICERA alseuomoides - Honeysuckle with small yellow flowers - purple inside in mid summer followed by black fruits. Well drained soil in sun or light shade.
LONICERA henryi - Vigorous evergreen climber with cream streaked red flowers in June and July. For ordinary soil in light shade or sun.
LONICERA periclymenum 'Graham Thomas' - White flowers over a long period, turning yellow. For sun or light shade. Vigorous and heavily scented variety.
LONICERA periclymenum 'Scentsation' - Recent introduction which is more compact and shorter growing with strong scented yellow flowers. Grow in sun or light shade in any good soil.
LONICERA periclymenum 'Serotina' - Creamy white flowers streaked purple and heavily scented especially in the evening. July to August. For light shade or sun.
LONICERA periclymenum 'Sweet Sue' - Discovered in Sweden by Roy Lancaster and named after his good lady wife Sue. Vigorous variety with good scented yellow flowers. Grow in light shade or sun.
PARTHENOCISSUS quinquefolia - 'Virginia Creeper' Valuable self clinging climber for its vivid autumn colouring against walls etc. Even in full shade.
PARTHENOCISSUS tricuspidata 'Fenway Park' - Form of the Boston Ivy with golden foliage (more yellow in sun). The autumn colour give a strong overlay of red as would be expected. Grow in shelter and moist soil in sun or light shade.
PARTHENOCISSUS tricuspidata 'Veitchii' - Boston Ivy with broad 20cm toothed leaves that turn dark reddish purple in autumn. Grow in fertile well dtained soil in sun or shade.
SCHIZOPHRAGMA hydrangeoides 'Roseum' - Aerial rooting climber with pink flower bracts in late summer. For rich moist soil in sun or light shade and shelter.
SOLANUM crispum 'Glasnevin' - Purple blue flowers all summer. Evergreen in mild winters. For sun and any good soil.
TRACHELOSPERMUM jasminoides var wilsonii - Evergreen climber with great foliage and highly scented starry white flowers in summer. Vigorous and best grown in sheltered light shade in well drained soil.
TROPAEOLUM speciosum - 'Flame Creeper'. Pale green divided foliage covered in scarlet, nasturtium like flowers from mid summer followed by blue fruits. For cool shade. Can be vigorous once established.
VERONICASTRUM villosulum - Rare climbing perennial with narrow leaves and short purple blue flowers in leaf axils in late summer. For well drained soil in sun.
WISTERIA floribunda 'Alba' - Superb climber with very long racemes of white flowers in early summer. Grow in moist fertile acid soil in sun or light shade.
WISTERIA floribunda 'Burford' - Hightly scented lilac purple flowers in long racemes up to a metre long in early summer. Grow in sun and good soil.
WISTERIA floribunda 'Harlequin' - 40cm racemes of lilac blue flowers appear shortly before the unfurling bronzy foliage in late spring. Grow in well drained soil in sun or light shade. Vigorous.
WISTERIA floribunda 'Kuchi beni' - White flowering variety with pink edges which blooms on a young plants after 4 years. Mid season. Grow in rich well drained soil in sun.
WISTERIA floribunda 'Rosea' - Syn W. Hon-beni. Long racemes of pale pink flowers from late spring . In Scotland grow on a sunny warm wall in rich well drained soil.
WISTERIA floribunda 'Russelliana' - Late season variety with medium to long racemes of purple and white flowers. Young foliage has bronze tints. Grow in rich moist well drained soil in sun.
WISTERIA floribunda 'Yae-Kokuryu' - Syn. 'Black Dragon' Long racemes of dark purple flowers in early summer. Good soil in sun or light shade.
